    Perhaps he likes to play games? See how many people he has to kill before either he or the other guy gets tired and ends it? Maybe cutting off the head of this snake would be too easy?

    Could just be the whole, “you can’t kill the noble even if he’s a total murderous douchebag” rule that most fantasy stories seem to have.

    Sorry for the double post, but it also seems that said noble also seems to be better with a sword than Kuro.

    Quite possibly, but Kuro didn’t even have his sword drawn when his throat got sliced. “He who strikes first often strikes last.” (Except when people use magic to cheat death.)
